A gathering place for
art enthusiasts.
We are a community united by a love of art. We pool our resources to support Boston’s visual artists while enjoying cultural experiences that foster curiosity, learning, and connection.
Our founding donors are current and former volunteers at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Many of us met through the museum's Associates program, where we trained as docents and floral designers and developed lasting friendships rooted in a shared enthusiasm for art. Boston Friends of the Visual Arts (“Boston Friends”) carries that spirit forward by bringing people together to support Boston’s visual artists—from Boston Public School students developing their talents in the classroom to emerging professional artists creating work in the studio.
As a group, members enjoy studio visits, lectures, and gallery talks; provide microgrants to artists; and underwrite community exhibitions throughout Greater Boston, with a special commitment to amplifying artists who are underrepresented in Boston’s major institutions.

Currently, membership is restricted to former MFA Associates. Once Boston Friends is established, we look forward to expanding our membership and welcoming all art enthusiasts.

Our events are hosted at various cultural venues throughout the Greater Boston area and occasionally on Zoom. Wherever possible, we aim to offer events that are accessible via public transportation.

Every contribution goes directly to artists, offering validation, encouragement, and sometimes just that little bit of extra support they need to continue their creative journey in Boston.
